Available immediately, users who visit taptu.com will find that they can create and share personalized streams of news directly within the browser, which can then be shared with friends and followers.

Taptu Allows You to Share Your Favorite News Streams Via Facebook, Twitter and the Web With New HTML5 App
Taptu connects phones, tablets and the Web with the first seamless social news reading experience
CAMBRIDGE, England DENVER-May 31, 2012- Taptu, the social media and mobile search technology company known for “DJ-ing the news,” is taking its popular news reader to the Web with a new HTML5 app. The new platform makes Taptu the most widely available reader app, letting users create and share personalized streams of news from their phone, tablet or computer.
The company’s new HTML5 website makes it the first truly cross-platform news reading experience, allowing anyone to access Taptu’s beautiful news and social media streams from any desktop browser, and synching customized streams across the native iOS or Android apps. By building their Web experience in HTML5 Taptu is pushing the envelope of browser based apps, and will soon be releasing a mobile web version of their app capable of bringing the Taptu experience to any WebKit browser.
“Taptu’s main advantage has always been our powerful search and aggregation technology that allows us to take any topic, source or keyword search and create a beautiful news reading experience around it,” said Mitch Lazar, CEO of Taptu. “Today we are taking a huge step towards making Taptu a universal tool for both discovering and sharing all your personal interests.”
Users have always had the ability to mix and mash news into custom visual streams using Taptu’s powerful search technology, and the new Web experience will now make it easy to share these streams with anyone. Once they have aggregated their favorite content into personalized streams, users can share with all their friends via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or email in just two clicks.
To create a seamless experience across devices, Taptu utilizes user accounts that synchronize all mixed streams using the Google, Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn accounts users already have. Users can create a stream on an iPad and it will automatically appear on their Android or iPhone, as well on the Web version of Taptu. To eliminate redundancy, any content read on one device is instantly marked as read across all platforms.
In addition to the new HTML5 destination and user accounts, Taptu has also recently improved their iOS and Android apps by bringing its popular Search Streams to iOS and the Web. Taking advantage of Taptu’s search heritage, this feature creates a stream around any keyword, and in beta testing on the Android platform users are already creating twice as many custom streams.

Video: Tenor John McDermott sings at fan’s funeral
Canadian tenor John McDermott sang “Amazing Grace” at the funeral of Glen Wideman, a devoted fan who died last Sunday.
It was Glen Wideman’s last concert.
With candles lit at the front of the silent chapel on Thursday afternoon, the famed Scottish-Canadian tenor John McDermott filled the room with the quiet, gentle lull of “Amazing Grace.”
It’s the hymn Wideman asked to be played at his funeral, in a letter his daughters found folded in a drawer after he died of cancer on Sunday. He was 74.
But Wideman would have never dreamed the man he adored, whose haunting, simple melodies he raised his family on, would be the one to sing it.
A devoted fan of McDermott’s, Wideman had been attending his concerts for two decades.
“My dad just loved him. He found solace in his music over the last 20 years,” said daughter Kim Severin. “I can’t think of a time when he wasn’t part of our lives.”
At Christmas and for birthdays, there were always tickets to concerts. Listening to McDermott’s music became a family affair, and in the end one of the last joys they shared together.
After Wideman had a “catastrophic” stroke in 1993, leaving him paralyzed on his left side, his family knew they were living on borrowed time.
At an Oakville concert in 2008, Wideman was unable to get to the meet-and-greet with McDermott. But when the singer met Severin and heard what a huge fan her father was, he asked where Wideman was sitting.
“He followed me into the audience and walked through all these people and just embraced my dad,” Severin said. It was one of the highlights of his life.
When their father was diagnosed with cancer and given six weeks to live, Severin emailed the singer on behalf of herself and her sister, Julie Navarro, desperate to make their father’s face light up one last time.
They offered McDermott $1,000 and then some if he would visit Wideman in the hospice where he would live out his final days.
“Within six hours of sending that email he called me on my cell,” Severin said. McDermott didn’t want the money, but he would come. She was floored.
Arrangements were made for Tuesday, but as his health rapidly declined Wideman’s family told the singer it might be better to call it off.
But McDermott insisted, saying he’d rearrange his schedule to come on Monday, as the daughters struggled to keep the surprise a secret from their father, hoping it would lift his spirits.
But on Sunday morning, Wideman slipped away. When they told McDermott, he asked if they would allow him to sing at the funeral.
McDermott wanted to honour a family man who enjoyed old songs and the simple things. “It’s people like Glen who really gave me my career,” he said.
Wideman grew up in Toronto, where he worked as a proofreader for a printing company.
With his wife, Carol, who he loved for more than 50 years, they raised their two girls in Mississauga.
They lived around the record player, memorizing words to all the classics — Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash.
“When we were growing up, music was a huge part of my dad’s life,” Severin said.
And Wideman was always singing. After the stroke, he was relentless. He would wake up singing, much to the annoyance of his sweetheart, his daughters said.
In the letter he wrote to his girls — addressed to “my darling daughters” — he said he wanted them to celebrate, not grieve, his life in the end, surrounded by music.
“Dad, if you only knew how we’ve topped this for you,” Severin said of McDermott’s appearance. “It’s helping us get through all this, because what better way to show our love for him.”
There’s a song McDermott wrote, “The Old Man,” that could have been penned for Wideman — the “perfect man who led an ordinary life” — and for his family, now in need of comforting.
McDermott sang the tune on Thursday, the Wideman girls wrapping their arms around each other for the final notes.
The tears have all been shed now / We’ve said our last goodbye / His soul’s been blessed / And he’s laid to rest / And it’s now I feel alone / He was more than just a father / A teacher, my best friend / He can still be heard / In the tunes we shared / When we play them on our own

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
Staff members at Vento Solutions has voiced their support for artists and other members of the art community through an initiative known as Expose SF Art.
In specific, Vento started its plan to promote visual and fine arts by committing itself to the revitalization of San Francisco’s art scene through Expose SF Art, but it has not stopped there.
With the release of Expose SF Art’s newest website, Vento Solutions also announced highly discounted web design, web development, and online marketing for artists, art students, or any business or individual involved with the arts in San Francisco.
“We know it’s hard for those in the art community. We’ve allotted a certain amount of time to discounted web design for artists, art students, and anybody else involved with the art community,” says a Vento Solutions spokesman.
The team is prepared to build fully customized website and online marketing plans for art galleries, art supplies stores, or individual artists from around the Bay Area.
Vento can create easily updatable portfolios for personal artwork, as well as captivating and visually stunning platforms from which to promote San Francisco’s art related works, services, or stores.

Vento’s highly discounted web design offer will provide artists and art institutions with the chance to promote themselves at extremely affordable prices.
This offer comes as Expose SF Art unveils its new sleek site including a better SEO layout, improved user experience, and a natural user interface. Expose SF’s design has incorporated imagery from a local photographer, although the site is still not ready and fully functional.
The site’s social media-based competition is preparing to accept innumerous submissions from artists all over the San Francisco Bay Area.
Expose SF Art is an art competition of a new breed. Where previous art contests have been exclusively judged by a panel of art professionals, Expose SF functions under the assumption that the opinions of art critics and experts are as important as art enthusiasts and fans.
The competition is set to occur in multiple stages. First, the Expose SF Art competition site will go completely live, and artists will be able to digitally submit their artwork to the online portion of the contest. Artists’ fans and art enthusiasts will then be able to vote for their favorite pieces.
The most highly voted SF artists and artwork will be entered into the final competition. Additional pieces will be elected by a panel of Expose SF Art Professionals.
The final SF art competition will be held in San Francisco and will award winners with career-building prizes such as patronage from Expose SF Art or gallery space in the upcoming year.
Vento Solutions recently partnered with US SEO, an international search engine optimization firm which is considered by some to provide the best search engine optimization in the United States

OnSwipe’s been around for a little over a year, and since raised a total of $6 million in funding and launched content recommendations within its HTML5 tablet publishing network. But just as tablets are entering into mainstream territory, people are now entirely comfortable consuming long-form content on their even-smaller iPhone.
That said, publishers who don’t want to build out an app will now have a new tool to display iPhone-optimized content to folks on-the-go.
OnSwipe for iPhone essentially lets publishers, both big-name sites like TechCrunch (for example) or a smaller Tumblr-er, beautify their site by pairing high-res imagery and touch interactions (just like their tablet-centric publishing platform) to create a smoother web experience for readers. In fact, all of the features of OnSwipe’s tablet publishing [WHO USES ONSWIPE?] tool have migrated to the iPhone version, including favorites, recommendations, and content categories. Publishers can also brand their OnSwipe iPhone web app by adding accent color and logo.
But the iPhone publisher isn’t the only feature the company is launching today.
OnSwipe Draft is a web-based layout editor and IDE for devs and publishers to personalize their own layouts. And you may have noticed me drop in the word “Favorites” up there, which, if you’re familiar with OnSwipe, should sound new.
The feature will allow readers to favorite content across all of OnSwipe’s publishing partners, complete with social integration. The feature uses Facebook connect, so any favorited content will be available to your friend network and vice versa. This means users will have a trove of their favorite content, regardless of publisher, and be able to see friends’ favorited content, as well.

Onswipe is a platform that provides a way for publishers of all sizes to make their content and advertising a beautiful experience on touch-enabled devices via Web browser. With Onswipe, media content and advertising will appear and function as they do on native websites and applications, providing a magazine-like experience on touch devices. Onswipe addresses a growing industry need with tablet use on the rise.

The mirror? Check.
The apple? Check.
Evil queen? Check.
And the warrior waif in armor leading a charge of rebels on horseback, storming the castle gates as burning oil and fireballs rain down . . . um, that’s Snow White?
Yes, it is.
A full-force fairy tale that takes the Grimms’ twisty yarn and adds heapings of The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Joan of Arc, and Celtic myth, Snow White and the Huntsman – with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles – is not your grandmother’s Disney cartoon. The seven dwarfs, when they finally make their appearance deep in a spellbound forest, aren’t whistling while they work: They’re a bunch of knobby thugs, and they’re played by a gang of great British character actors (Hoskins! Jones! McShane! Winstone!), digitally diminuated and ready to steal anything they can get their hands on – including the movie.
And a surprisingly fine, fantastic movie it is.
Directed by Rupert Sanders, a Brit with a resumé of eye-popping commercials (Halo, Xbox, Puma, Adidas), Snow White and the Huntsman finds its hero, like Frodo or Odysseus before her, engaged in an epic quest. From innocent, beautiful child (played, in the prologue, by Raffey Cassidy) to a wan prisoner in a dank tower, to a fugitive in hiding, to an exiled royal ready to reclaim her throne and restore the land to rosier days, Snow White – with her pale skin and raven tresses, and Errol Flynn-as-Robin Hood tights – is the archetypal adventurer, facing daunting challenges, and meeting them head-on.
Stewart, who was beginning to seem hobbled by the torn-between-two-lovers teenage angst of The Twilight Saga, literally jumps into her role here (she escapes the queen’s clutches by propelling down a watery chute). There’s a scene with Snow White, moving warily through the woods, in which she faces off with a tree troll. Even Hemsworth’s Huntsman, a sad, angry soul hired by the queen to return the runaway princess to the castle, is impressed.
He should be.
As for the queen, Ravenna, Charlize Theron has a grand old time, sexy, sinister, soliloquizing before a giant gong-shaped mirror, plotting with her lecherous brother (Sam Spruell), dressed in elegant capes, cloaks, and gowns. Her slip-on talons, used to pluck the hearts out of little birds, are quite practical, too.
If Theron has to deliver a few laughably bad lines (Ravenna wants “immortality forever” – as opposed to the short-term immortality option?) she does so with aplomb. Stewart, likewise, rallies her troops with an invitation to mount up and “ride like the thundering waves!” Not exactly the St. Crispin’s Day speech.
Like the original Grimm tale, Sanders and company’s Snow White and the Huntsman digs into Jungian and Freudian muck: The apple is temptation, but also knowledge; the relationship between sister and brother is founded on trust, but also, perhaps, on desire (Snow White’s long-lost sibling, William, returns in the guise of English pretty boy Sam Claflin). And Christian and pagan themes run through the story: Snow White is greeted by a statuesque hart (with tree branches for antlers), a god figure with hooves. Their fateful meeting happens in the midst of an enchanted forest, where the mushrooms have eyeballs and weird little naked faeries pop from the breasts of magpies. It’s like a pre-Raphaelite acid trip. Freaky and twee.
In a good way, of course.

Fans of Taptu’s news DJ mobile apps will now be able to get their news fix from computers as well. The company today launched a new HTML5-powered web app that also synchronizes with all of Taptu’s existing apps — giving it a leg up on competitors like Pulse and Flipboard, which are still mobile only.
The Taptu web app will also allow you to easily share remixed streams of news with anyone on the web, even if they’re not Taptu users. And once new users catch a glimpse of Taptu’s slick web app, which also updates feeds in real-time, they could easily be tempted to sign up for the service as well.
“Taptu’s main advantage has always been our powerful search and aggregation technology that allows us to take any topic, source or keyword search and create a beautiful news reading experience around it,” Taptu CEO Mitch Lazar said in a statement today. “Today we are taking a huge step towards making Taptu a universal tool for both discovering and sharing all your personal interests.”
Launching a web app is a wise move for Taptu, since it can now directly fight aging news and RSS services like Google Reader. As more and more users give up on trying to follow a deluge of news from feed readers, a service like Taptu could let them easily filter out the noise and follow news they care about.
The company says it’s also working on bringing its web app to any mobile browser based on WebKit (which includes iOS and Android). While the company already has mobile apps on those platforms, the web app will still be useful for targeting consumers who haven’t yet signed up for Taptu. And of course, it gives the company an easy gateway to other mobile platforms without building new apps.
Taptu is based in Cambridge, England and Denver, Colorado. It has raised around $19 million in funding from DFJ Esprit and Sofinnova, and 3i Group.

Paul Fitzgerald reports on how a company like Axiatel.com is branding itself as world leader in simple integration, elegant designs and fast publication at a price you simply can’t turn down
There are literally thousands of companies out there on the World Wide Web who offer website design services.
There are many outfits that do stellar work in building premium and standard websites, but the invoices they send in at the end of the day might make a real good pinch on a company’s budget.
However it seems as though the website design industry is going through some change for the better, which is a real benefit for businesses around the globe.
“I think the days of small and medium sized businesses paying $5,000 to $15,000 for a website is passé,” explains Mark Hoyt, Axiatel’s International Business Manager in Paris, France. Axiatel.com has over 60,000 clients who hail from all over Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, and Australia.
Hoyt adds, “New technology and a new economy are really driving lots of change out there these days in terms of website designs, among others. It seems now that small and medium sized business can build the kind of website they’ve dreamed of for only fraction of the cost.”
The company has been in operation for a few years now and they offer their diverse pool of clients an array of exceptional services: online fax, conference calls, virtual switchboard, as well as their free business cards and social media guides for Twitter and Facebook.
And now, based on demand from their global customer base, they have just started offering website creation hosting services.
So far so good: they are now leading the pack.
“Since we began offering our website design services package online we have received an overwhelming response from current and new clients around the world,” says Hoyt.
“What we are hearing from clients is that they want a professional and easy to use website where they don’t have to shell out thousands of dollars. At Axiatel.com, we have answered the call from clients and we know our website design services will remain a big hit on the market for a long, long time.”
Here’s a quick breakdown of what this innovative company is doing. When you go to their site, you can register for a 30 day free trial to build a website. Once in, you can create a simple website within 10 minutes, or if you want a more complex site it might take a bit more time, but still it’s all pretty quick and straight forward. Even better, you don’t need any software to install, you don’t have to be tech savvy, and there is no commitment during the free trial period. In just three easy steps, you will have a site up in no time.
The monthly rates that Axiatel.com offers are mind blowing on the affordability scale. The Value Pack, which comes with five email addresses, six pages, five GB, and 30 page layouts, is only $8.90 per month. The Business Pack, which includes 10 email addresses, 25 pages, 10GB and 50 page layouts, is just $14.90 per month.
Bloggers who pen stories on the industry are now weighing in on the new trend of companies like Axiatel.com offering professional website services for next to nothing. All of them agree that the website design industry has entered a new chapter. And, it’s all good.
“Both new and established businesses don’t want to have to spend weeks and months building a website that comes with a hefty price tag,” says Hoyt. “Companies out there are watching their bottom line more closely today and of course want to work efficiently and effectively in creating their sites.”
He adds, “Time and money matter – that’s what it’s all about now and new technology and support is driving the change in the industry.”
There are many companies out there that are offering similar website design packages, but Axiatel.com seems to have the biggest push on: they are touting their services all over the web through blogs, social media and the mass media. Plus, word of mouth – a traditional form of advertising – is boosting their brand in a big way.
For more information, visit www.axiatel.com and try out their website creation package. It’s an offer you probably won’t turn down.
Ride the wave of change and put more money back in your pocket book.

Vento Solutions’ Discounted Web Design Expose SF Art’s Site Relaunch
Vento Solutions is a bi-coastal web design firm which has worked with clients ranging from non-profit organizations to biomedical to alcohol distribution. Based in New York City and San Francisco, the Vento team has managed both startup and enterprise-sized accounts from San Francisco to Hong Kong.

Stopwatch in CSS 3, no JavaScript necessary. Image: Screenshot/Webmonkey
Five years ago the hotness in web development was showing what you could create without resorting to Flash. Now it seems the same is true of JavaScript. While we’ve nothing against JavaScript, the increasingly powerful tools in CSS 3 mean that JavaScript is no longer a necessity for building cool stuff on the web.
The latest JavaScript-free demo we’ve run across is this very cool stopwatch demo made using only CSS 3, no images or JavaScript necessary. Now before you dive into the code and get all Karl Van Hœt on us, yes, there is a script used to handle CSS prefixing, but the actual stopwatch doesn’t require it to work.
But what caught our eye even more than the JavaScript-free stopwatch demo is the tutorial that accompanies it. The tutorial — which is one part screencast and one part code dump — is part of Code Player, which helps you learn how to do things by showing you the code as it’s written. It’s an interesting tutorial method, one we haven’t seen before.
Watching code being written isn’t for everyone, especially beginners who might not be able to easily follow what’s happening, but it’s well suited to those that already understand the basics and just want to see how some particular function was written. It also provides an interesting look at how other developers work, which in turn might teach you a new trick or two.
The Code Player offers a variety of playback speeds depending on how fast you want to run through the tutorial, and there’s a timeline scrubber for pausing and rewinding any bits you miss. Our only complaint is that Code Player forces focus in the browser; when you try to click another tab or do something in the background Code Player steals focus back immediately.
If learning something new by watching someone else type sounds intriguing, head on over to the Code Player site. And don’t worry if the stopwatch demo has no appeal for you, there are plenty of other tutorials to choose from.

ZooZ, an in-app mobile payment provider is adding an HTML5 version of its solution. The company boasts that its new SDK is so easy to use — requiring just three lines of code — that developers can monetize apps across any platform in just 10 minutes.
“With our new HTML5 offering, developers can now quickly and easily create secure in-app payment capabilities for almost any mobile device and platform in the market today, including older-generation phones,” said company co-founder and CEO Oren Levy. “By enabling developers to deliver fully featured, native HTML5 and hybrid mobile payment solutions via a single platform, we’re accelerating the pace of app development and aggressively opening up huge business opportunities for both mobile developers and enterprises.”
According to the company’s announcement, this latest version extends full functionality to both HTML5 and hybrid apps on mobile and desktop browsers and gives mobile developers a fast way to add multiple payment channels — from PayPal to credit cards to Google Wallet — into one solution. ZooZ said it has seen significant adoption of its solution since it exited beta just two months ago, with more than 1,000 mobile developers registering for its services in that time.
In-app payments is becoming an increasingly busy space, but ZooZ said one thing that sets its solution apart from others is that it supports merchants who sell physical goods as well as digital content, and also supports currencies and languages in more than 150 countries.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – May 30, 2012) – O’Reilly Fluent Conference — 4D, a leading provider of open source integrated application development solutions, today announced Wakanda Beta 2, the newest beta version of its popular Wakanda JavaScript development platform. With Wakanda, developers have a first-ever full stack JavaScript development platform for Web and mobile business applications. The new Wakanda foundation relies on best-of-breed technology — Web and mobile applications, a development studio, client framework, NoSQL database, server and model-driven architecture. The company will offer both an Open Source community and commercial version of Wakanda. Web applications developed with Wakanda are easily deployed on the Cloud.
Developers can use Wakanda to program the entire application stack with JavaScript and its Model Driven Architecture (MDA) assures high levels of re-use and decreases in maintenance costs. Both the user interface (UI) and the data model of the application are designed with a powerful WYSIWYG designer from Wakanda Studio, and the Wakanda client framework and GUI designer leverage the full power of HTML5 and CSS3. The NoSQL object datastore natively speaks REST/HTTP and server-side JavaScript (SSJS). Unlike with SQL databases, there is no need to use an ORM layer. There is no hidden SQL generation. Wakanda natively understands the business logic.
Built on 25 years of business application experience and with the support of an active developer community, Wakanda’s new development environment can be extended with third-party widgets, libraries and server modules. In addition, Wakanda’s open source environment supports developers in adding connectors to their preferred databases. The entire Wakanda solution supports full industry standard compliance, including JSON, REST/HTTP, W3C, and CommonJS.
“With this newest version of Wakanda we are providing one open, complete solution for all Web and mobile business application development,” said Laurent Ribardiere, Wakanda CTO and creator. “Developers no longer need to learn, integrate and maintain different technologies in different languages — Wakanda delivers a cohesive JavaScript stack instead of disparate technologies. With Wakanda, developers can program their entire application with JavaScript from end-to-end.”
Wakanda Offers Powerful JavaScript Programming Features
In addition to providing end-to-end JavaScript programming, Wakanda leverages existing libraries and third party solutions on both client and server, and is cloud-ready. A complete list of individual features of Wakanda Studio, Wakanda Server and Wakanda Framework grouped by functional areas of the platform can be found at http://www.wakanda.org/features/ and includes touch for mobile development, pure multi-threaded JavaScript, NoSQL Object Datastore and many other new features.
In an IDC White Paper, Al Hilwa, Program Director, Application Development Software for IDC found, “Wakanda is a well-designed end-to-end application platform that comes complete with a graphical development environment catering to modern developer requirements… The application development approach supported by Wakanda abstracts much of the complexity in developing enterprise applications rapidly and productively.” (IDC White Paper, sponsored by 4D, Inc., Wakanda: Blending Traditional Developer Productivity with Modern Web Architecture and Standards, October 2011)
Availability and Pricing
Wakanda production release will be available in June in both community and commercial versions. The community version of Wakanda will be free. Monthly subscriptions for commercial licenses and developer support will start at $35 per month for one developer and will include a royalty-free unlimited deployment right.

Spokane Based, 2X Sales Results Group Has Had Phenomenal Success; Helping One Client Go International With Their Largest Order Ever, And A Non-Profit Client Receive A $5000 Grant Less Than 2 Weeks After Website Completion.
Spokane, WA (PRWEB) May 31, 2012
Earlier this week 2X Sales Results Group was mentioned in a press release on the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Houston Chronicle, Boston Globe and many other local and national media websites including CBS.com for helping North Idaho AIDS Coalition (NIAC) re-design their website. Less than two weeks after completion of the website, NIAC received a sizable grant. Reason they were chosen – “We found you on the internet” – Tom Viola, Executive Director, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
2X Sales does more than just design websites. They also offer Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social Media Marketing, Business and Marketing Consulting, Graphic Design, Press Release Copy Writing and Distribution, and more. Last month they helped a Memphis client expand national sales into Canada through Web Design, SEO, Google AdWords, Press Releases, and Social Media. “Jerry has helped us sell more product in the last quarter than all last year” – Glenn Heard, Product Development, MedixSafe.
How much does it cost for these kind of results? Surprisingly, 2X Sales charges hundreds where their competitors charge thousands. In fact, their hourly rate for consultation is only $44/hr where major firms can charge more than $140/hr. An average five-page website is only $799 and social media maintenance packages start at $295/mo. 2X Sales Marketing Guru Jerry Thrasher explains, “We keep our costs low and pass the savings on to our clients. We have no need for a fancy office or large ad campaigns. All of our advertising is focused on results, like we do for our clients.”
Their website 2xsales.com states:
“A successful internet marketing campaign integrates strategies that:
We understand best practices. We understand what works and what does not. More importantly, we understand that if it doesn’t deliver tangible results quickly it’s not a best practice, no matter what the books says.”
