Press Release from:
Web Design Company In Melbourne – Zeemo

Read: 12 times

Red Interior Design is a residential, commercial, retail and exhibition interior design team located in the Melbourne suburb of East Ivanhoe. They have worked on a number of properties in the Melbourne area and are able to provide many products and services that set them apart from the rest.

Their services include measuring and quotes, re-upholstery, re-framing, colour scheme selection, finish selection, space planning, furniture design, development of architectural plans and project management. They display many of the products that they have on offer – from furniture and artwork to rugs and mirrors – in their showroom.

Whilst their current website is nice, the Red Interior Design team quickly made the conclusion that it simply wasn’t doing their exceptional services or products justice. In a bid to rectify this problem, they approached web design company, Zeemo, with the question of how their web presence could be improved. In the ensuing discussions, it was quickly decided that photographs of the team’s past projects needed to be featured if they want to draw in more interested clients for future ones. Whilst the colour scheme of the current website is nice, it really doesn’t showcase their images.

The dedicated and creative web design team at Zeemo are currently hard at work developing initial ideas of what the brand new Red Interior Design website could look like. They have decided to stick with a neutral colour scheme that can be injected with hints of colour, specifically red, which features in the team’s name and logo. Instead of trying to cram all of the information into a couple of pages separated into products and services, Zeemo will create individual pages for each of the products and services to ensure that the information is easy to find and attention grabbing.

Zeemo are a web design company located in the Melbourne suburb of Clayton, which possesses over 10 years industry experience. They have worked with businesses across the state and Australia as a whole, ensuring that they have many happy clients under their belt. Some of the services that Zeemo can assist with include: online marketing, search engine optimisation (SEO), photography, graphic design, content writing and mobile application development. The team is committed to providing their clients with a web presence that is wholly unique and successful, commitments that are hard to come by.

Houston-born WordPress turns 10 on Monday. It’s meetup time!

Ten years ago on Monday, Matt Mullenweg and Mark Little released the very first version of WordPress, the platform that today dominates blogging. Mullenweg was 19 years old at the time, and attending the University of Houston, having graduated from HISD’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

wplogo-hoz-cmykWordPress, you see, was born in Houston. Mullenweg left town the following year – hired by CNet, he dropped out of UH – to move to San Francisco. In 2005, he founded Automattic, the company that runs the WordPress.com hosting site and oversees work on the open-source version of WordPress.

A decade after its creation, WordPress powers some of the highest-profile sites on the Web, including this one. The Houston Chronicle’s blogs are part of a WordPress installation run by Hearst Newspapers, and there are more than 450 blogs on our servers. Other major users include The New York Times, CNN, Reuters, Forbes, Mashable, TechCrunch, GigaOM, AllThingsD and many, many more.

WordPress is popular because it makes online publication a breeze. You can do amazing things with this software, which is infinitely extendable and supported by a remarkable community of bright and creative developers. It’s safe to say that WordPress has been a major influence in the growth of the Web as a whole.

On Monday, WordPress users  will gather in dozens of cities around the world to celebrate the software’s creation. There’s a meetup scheduled for Houston. If you post content using WordPress, develop for it or just look at stuff on WordPress blogs – like the one you’re reading right now – you should consider attending.

The meetup kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Monday at StartHouston, a co-working space at 1121 Delano St. at Polk. It’s BYOB. I’ll see you there.

CORRECTED-Tiger Global invests $50 million in Automattic’s WordPress.com

Fri May 24, 2013 6:01pm EDT

(Corrects to “automattic” from “wordpress” in second paragraph,
name to “Rizvi Traverse” in sixth paragraph, and spelling of
name to Mullenweg from Mullen in seventh paragraph)

By Sarah McBride

SAN FRANCISCO May 24 (Reuters) – Automattic, the company
that operates blogging service WordPress.com, announced a $50
million investment from hedge fund and private-equity investor
Tiger Global on Friday.

The investment comes on the heels of Yahoo’s $1.1
billion acquisition of blogging company Tumblr, showing the high
prices fast-growing services that targeting Internet users can
command. The valuation for Automattic was similar, Fortune
reported. A spokeswoman for WordPress declined to comment.

WordPress powers the blogs at companies such as CNN.com and
Techcrunch, a spokeswoman said.

The investment bought out shares of existing shareholders,
including early employees, rather than directly funding the
company, wrote WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg in a blog post.

“Allowing early investors to lock in some returns releases
any short-term pressure there might be on the company for a
liquidity event and allows us to focus fully on the long road
ahead,” he wrote in his post.

The investment is part of a crop of financing where
nontraditional investors make bets on venture-capital backed
companies. They include private-equity firms such as Rizvi
Traverse Management, which last year led a $200 million funding
round in payments service Square, and mutual funds such as T.
Rowe Price, which has invested in companies including micro blog
service Twitter.

Many of these investors “come in with the ability to write
checks larger than the entire size of most VC funds,” wrote
Mullenweg.

More top blogs run Word Press than any other publishing
platform, according to a 2012 study conducted by Kingdom, a
website monitoring service. Blogs it cited in the study include
technology sites such as Tech Crunch and Boingboing and
Hollywood news site Deadline.

While many organizations use Tumblr, it is heavily
associated with individuals updating friends and others on their
activities and interests, social-media style.

And while Tumblr’s revenue is advertising based, the bulk of
WordPress’s revenue comes from fees to users who upgrade beyond
its basic free service. It also derives significant revenue from
charging large media companies to host their entire blogging
platforms, said Automattic Chief Financial Officer Stuart West
in a telephone interview. He declined to disclose figures.

Like Tumblr, WordPress is growing fast, with 50 million
users today compared with 4 million five years ago, the company
said. Tumblr launched five years ago and today has more than 100
million blogs in its network.

The largest single audience group for WordPress is users
aged 25-34, according to consultancy comScore. For Tumblr, the
largest group is users aged 18-24.

Earlier this year, Tiger led a $444 million equity
investment in online survey company SurveyMonkey as part of a
financing round that also allowed early investors and employees
to cash out. Tiger partner Lee Fixel handled his firm’s
investment in both SurveyMonkey and Automattic.

Tiger extended its offer to WordPress in April, before
Yahoo’s acquisition of Tumblr was announced, West said.

Automattic’s venture backers include Polaris Partners, True
Ventures, and the New York Times Co.

Report: Developers Choose HTML5 and Open Standards over Native Apps

Report: Developers Choose HTML5 and Open Standards over Native Apps

Zend, an Israeli world wide web infrastructure software company relating to the development, deployment and management of PHP-based web application, has just released the results of its annual developer survey.

The poll of 5,000 developers revealed important information about the adoption of open standards, along with key trends in DevOps, mobile development and cloud. Due to massive takeup of smartphones, tablets and the general consumerization of IT, they say we now live in an “App Economy,” where applications have become the new face of a business to customers, employees and partners.

It appears that open standards and HTML5 are becoming the typical way to develop mobile apps, which are then, more often than not, deployed to the cloud.

A recent subject of some debate has been the relative adoption of HTML5 and open standards for the development of mobile applications, as compared to native development on the iOS, Android and Windows platforms. Open standards enable companies to easily target multiple devices with their in-house Web developers.

A native development approach, on the other hand, presents the challenge of needing to develop to multiple OS platforms. There is a point of view in the market that open Web standards like HTML5 and JavaScript have the opportunity to unify mobile application development, just like they unified Web development for the desktop. In fact, this year’s survey proved that open standards are already the developers’ first choice. Our survey found that 79% of developers said they are already using HTML5 and open Web standards.

HTML5 is also a popular choice for companies needing multiple-platform support. Another recent developer study by Kendo uI found that only 15 percent of developers would go native when building an app that must perform on multiple platforms. It would appear that the debate over whether or not HTML5 will become standard is just about over, particularly in the PHP community.

Zend Technologies Ltd. is headquartered in Cupertino, California, U.S., technology center in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv, Israel and offices in France, Italy and Germany. The company’s operations are currently centered on the development of products s, including Zend Studio.

The pageless Web

ChuckLonganecker

GazingInternet

The Internet has been evolving for 20+ years, so isn’t it time websites got onboard? Since the Internet made its public debut in the mid-90s, basic website structure has remained virtually untouched. Still tied to the same print-based paradigms and catalog-style navigation, these outdated formats now shackle designers to a limited framework that prevents them them from truly exploring the advantages inherent in the digital medium.

Websites suffer from the ultimate skeuomorphic insecurity, trying to be something they’re not, by emulating the print paradigm. These shackles to print also inspires bad user experiences. Think of the ADD-like behavior visitors adopt as they jump from page to disjunct page trying to find some semblance of a path on journeys without easy-to-reach goals. Bottom line, websites are broken, but not lost. At long last, Web designers have now begun shedding old handcuffs and defining a new form of website: intuitive, guided experiences that actually help the user achieve his or her goals. Here’s how.

Websites are finally taking a cue from mobile developers.

The stagnation of website design stands in stark contrast to the innovation seen in mobile app design. Due to the unique navigation in Path, Clear, and Rise, and the visceral, satisfying feeling we get from our favorite apps, mobile app developers are redefining what it means to interact with digital content. These unique interfaces and visceral feedback are what make our favorite apps so satisfying and addicting. They also hold the key to what’s missing from today’s web design.

Going forward, more websites will embrace visceral design to evoke satisfaction we receive from our favorite mobile apps. Loren Birtcher’s pull to refresh, the pleasing sounds of Tweetbot – these will be emulated and baked into Web design to create memorable experiences. The infinite scroll, pageless feel to the apps is also something that the Web could use more of. Sites like the newly revamped Flickr have created immersive experiences, and user delight, through the use of endless scroll.

When you’re not jumping from page to page, it’s easier to get engaged with digital content. Website designers should look to mobile innovations for inspiration to push the boundaries of what it means to use and move about a website. The browser tech is there, the connection speeds are there. It’s time to take advantage of what’s available to us to deliver new and unique experiences that resonate.

Websites will tell better stories.

Forget a loose collection of pages that have little to do with one another. Think instead of narrative arcs and storylines. Stories are how we’ve communicated since the beginning of time, and are still the most effective way for brands to communicate with consumers. Websites need to embrace storytelling and leverage the attributes of the digital medium to tell story that people will care about. Pageless, long scroll design allows for the development of these stories, while on-page interactive elements such as rich media, y-axis animation, drawers, etc. provide opportunity for users to explore within the context of the broader narrative.

Sites like Desk.com create rich experiences that lead users through a narrative to an ultimate conclusion. Google Glass engages and inspires users through rich imagery and emotionally expansive experiences that let users go as deep as they want. These stories lead to an outcome — a satisfying conclusion that meets the needs of the user and site owner.

Websites will be more aware.

We’re not calling for the singularity here, but websites should know what their objectives are and provide feedback within that context that allows owners to optimize results. Currently, websites are nothing more than collections of pages that have little to do with one another. This means there is rarely a cohesive user experience that leads to a goal. That’s why marketers use landing pages instead of driving traffic directly to corporate sites. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Websites tomorrow will have clear goals for each user type and the design will guide users to their ultimate goal.

At the same time, sites will provide real time and contextual feedback to owners about current conversion rates and optimization opportunities. When websites have a goal and know the desired outcome, they’ll be able to make relevant, proactive recommendations based on understanding where the breakdown in the user experience happens. It’s not quite Skynet, but websites should be able to tell marketers and owners where there’s a breakdown and suggest how to fix it. This doesn’t exist today, although using tools like Crazy Egg, Qualaroo and KISSMetrics can at least elevate understanding above simple page stats.

Websites will feel native on any screen.

The line between mobile apps and websites will continue to blur, and web designers will create experiences optimized for any screen, rather than the reductionist mentality that exists today. Responsive design is a hot topic, but too often responsive equals reduction — simply stripping away content, navigation and functionality to deliver an experience as fast as possible. It makes sense for now, but as mobile speeds improve, websites will use responsive design to deliver the highest and best experience for that screen size, rather than the simplest.

Google’s Chromebook site does a great job with this. Not only is the site responsive, but the navigation and page elements smartly rearrange to create an optimal experience on the phone without stripping away any of the richness of the desktop experience. This means leveraging interactions that make sense for the device, changing text links to buttons for mobile, using swipes instead of clicks, and more. Call it Responsive+ if you want, but whatever it is, designers need to push the flexibility of design delivery to create the best experience for any screen, not the most reductive.

Smarter sites are the future of Web design.

What do Nest, Square, Nike, and Google have in common? Besides being the category leading brands in their respective spaces, they are pushing web design forward and creating more business value by engaging their users through forward-thinking web design. Sites like Nest and Square are heralding a new era of website: Smart Sites.

The onus is now on us as designers to embrace these trends and finally push web design into the future. We need to join our mobile brethren in creating truly memorable, satisfying experiences. We need to create story-driven user experiences that are truly rewarding for users. We need to stop designing collections of pages that create disjunct, ADD-like behavior. And finally, we need to find a way to bring this design to the masses.

Smart design shouldn’t be limited to the most elite teams and companies. As designers of the web, we should seek to find ways to create better experiences for everyone. As we improve the design of the web, utility and value increases for every user. It’s the ultimate network effect win. So it’s time to insist on smarter sites. It’s time to build on the work done by Google, Nike, Pinterest, Square and Nest. Owners, designers, everyone needs to embrace this evolution. The future of the Web depends on us.

Tiger Global Invests $50 Million In WordPress

Tiger Global Management invested $50 million in Automatic, a blogging site, web developer and the parent company of Word Press. Matthew Mullenweg, founder of the company broke out the news regarding the new investment in his blog.

Tiger Global Secondary Transaction In Automatic Stock

According to Mullenweg, Tiger Global made a secondary transaction in Automatic stock. He said, “There has been a large secondary transaction in Automatic stock, about $50M worth. “Secondary” means that it’s existing stockholders, like the earliest investors or employees, selling stock to another investor versus money going into the company (“primary”).”

Mullenweg said that Lee Fixel, one of the silent genius investors of Tiger Global, initiated the investment in Automatic who also previously invested in SurveyMonkey, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Linkedln Corp (NYSE:LNKD), Palantir Square, and Warby Parker.

“Automatic is healthy, generating cash and already growing as fast as it can so there’s no need for the company to raise money directly — we’re not capital constrained. The minority of stockholders that elected to participate are holding on to the vast majority of their shares. We’re building an independent company that’s going to be a growing part of the fabric of the web for many years to come, so allowing early investors to lock in some returns releases any short-term pressure there might be on the company for a liquidity event and allows us to focus fully on the long road ahead,” wrote Mullenweg.

Last March, Tiger Global also acquired Cabone, a global daily deals website based in Dubai. Cabone did not disclose the amount of capital infused by the firm’s private equity business, but it indicated that the investment will help the company in expanding its operation.

“Tiger Global gives us the international clout and the financial resources to expand regionally and surpass already high customer expectations,” stated Paul Kenny, founder of Cabone.

On the other hand, Tiger Global’s hedge fund closed out its position in gun maker Sturm, Ruger Company (NYSE:RGR) as people criticized the gun industry and demanded stricter gun control regulations after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed more than 2 dozen people including children. Tiger Global exited its 4.2 percent stake of 800,000 shares in the gun maker.

Coleman, one of the protégées of legendary investor Julian Robertson, generated outstanding returns from his investments in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG).

Note (5/24/2013): The article was amended to reflect that Tiger Global Management’s private equity arm has invested in Automatic and Cabone. A previous version said that the firm’s hedge fund business had made the investments.

WordPress-Maker Automattic Sells $50 Million Of Stock In Secondary Offering To …

Automattic, the company behind publishing platform WordPress.com, has sold $50 million in a secondary offering led by investment management firm Tiger Global. The sale will allow some early investors and employees to get cash in exchange for their shares, while adding another stakeholder in the company.

The share offering wasn’t necessary to raise funds for the company, according to Automattic founder Matt Mullenweg. In a blog post, he wrote that the company is “healthy, generating cash, and already growing as fast as it can, so there’s no need for the company to raise money directly.” He also noted that the minority of stockholders who participated in the secondary sale continue to hold on to the vast majority of their shares.

Lee Fixel at Tiger Global led the investment, which follows other high-profile, late-stage deals that the firm has made recently. Those include investments in Eventbrite and SurveyMonkey. Tiger Global is also an investor in companies like Palantir, Square and Warby Parker, as well as Facebook and LinkedIn. With the purchase, Tiger will join existing investors in Automattic, such as Polaris Partners, True Ventures, Radar Partners, and The New York Times Company.

WordPress.com, of course, is the publishing platform (one might call it a CMS) that powers a number of high-profile sites, including the one you’re reading right now. WordPress (the open source project upon which WordPress.com is based*) is just about to celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 27 and will have meetups in cities across the world to celebrate.

In JavaScript I have no file handling capabilities, no way to create, modify, or access data bases, and no real objects .

I was wondering what the easiest way of passing variables back and forth between PHP JavaScript / JavaScript PHP .

I have seen a couple examples doing a Google search, but no good explanation on how it’s done.

From what I can tell the way it’s done it to output PHP code in the JavaScript “”document.write(‘PHP code here’);“” , and output JavaScript code in the PHP “”echo ‘JavaScript code here’ ;“” .

How does this work, and is there an easier way this can be done ? ( without AJAX )

 Thank you for your time.

Web Design Miami Pros Recognized As The "Best Web Design Company in …

Best Web Design Miami

Based in Florida, Web Design Miami Pros Was Just Recognized by Its Peers as The “Best Web Design Company” Due to Consistent Use of Best Practices.

(Newswire.net — May 24, 2013) Miami, Florida Web Design Miami Pros was awarded the title of  “Best Web Design Miami Company” in Miami, FL. The results came after asking marketing experts in a web-based poll provided by a client.

The recognition was a confirmation of the great talent the developers use and have given the web design Miami firm a great distinction within the marketplace.

A Web Design Miami Pros spokesman said he was deeply honored by the results, and suggested that the reason they were so good was that they were fortunate to have great designers who love their work.

He said, “We are so fortunate to have such high calibre staff and partners. I’m sure our competition would love to have them too, but they don’t, so if you want professional designs and marketing outcomes this is the service to use”

“Web Design Miami Pros isn’t looking for your run-of-the-mill pixel pusher,” said the spokesman. “Our design team really creates magic when it gathers together for a creative session. The ideas generated from everyone’s involvement are simply first class.”

The spokesman ticked off three qualities he looks for in a team member: A personal vision about what the client needs to attract the targeted audience, a sense of ownership over the projects they work on, and a “builder” mindset.

“These are people that take pride in their work and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure the client is completely satisfied. We look for people who can say, ‘I have a great design idea,’ can think through the client’s needs, can think through what will attract the target audience, and then build something great,” said the spokesman at the web design Miami company.

According to the spokesman, design is becoming critical in nearly every industry, so recruiting great designers is becoming increasingly difficult. Selecting the right candidates can be half the battle, and mistakes need to be avoided.

Interviewers should not underestimate how time-consuming this process can be and a candidate who doesn’t fit the company’s pace, culture and background needs to be weeded out without delay.

The spokesman at the web design Miami company reported that the informal poll came from a client, who then called the local marketing experts, and were asked who they thought was the best in the area and why.

Among those surveyed, Web Design Miami Pros had the best design staff in the city, and was a firm to be taken seriously.

“We hope with this recognition and discovery that our order book improves significantly,” said the spokesman. To learn more about website design Miami services call 305-440-5544 or click on this link: http://www.webdesigninmiamifl.com

Microsoft exposes green users’ privates in web quiz snafu

Microsoft has plugged a flaw in its Greener IT Challenge website that leaked the names and email addresses of users who took a quiz on the site.

Users who passed the quiz by demonstrating their knowledge of buying environmentally sensitive PCs, choosing minimal power use options for new computers and how to dispose of obsolete IT kit safely were given a certificate.

The certificate is displayed at the end of the multiple-choice test, at which point a PDF version can be downloaded for printing.

However some “bad form” web-design meant that these PDF versions of the certificates were allocated in numerical order, on an unencrypted website open to world+dog. It would have been a simple matter for spammers or other miscreants to run a script and harvest hundreds of email addresses. The information might then be usable in spam runs or (worse) phishing campaigns.

In a statement, Microsoft told El Reg that the problem was “fully resolved”.

“We have now resolved this issue so all users are anonymous and their information is private,” it said.

In fairness to Microsoft we’re only talking about email addresses and names here, and not highly sensitive information like credit card numbers. Nonetheless, people are entitled to hold Microsoft to high standards in web design; something it (or a third-party agency acting in its name) failed to live up to on this occasion. ®

Bootnote

A hat tip to Reg reader Marc for his “quick tip on some ‘bad form’ web-design,” as he put it.
